Oliver's Birth Announcement
There is a fine line between endearingly cute and annoyingly cloying when it comes to baby announcements. Luckliy, for newborn Oliver, his parents are designers so his announcement begins on the side of cute, goes to cloying, then comes back to cute for a really great, tactile package that is both funny and well made. Plus, this is a product line in the making and may put Oliver through college so maybe the Gunthries could start producing for other parents to fill in. And it's probably one of the only projects on FPO that has been inspired by Law & Order or CSI.
This was our son Oliver's birth announcement that was sent to friends and family. During the last few months of pregnancy, I was mostly laid up because of severe swelling. It is pretty amazing that at any point in time on any given day, there is an episode of Law & Order or CSI on television. I started to get the idea before he was born that we would do a criminal file on him since he had been making me so uncomfortable and it just sort of grew into itself.

Video: Tilt-Shift Time-Lapse
By Evan Ackerman
Remember that post from January about Nikon’s then new tilt-shift lens? You know, the one where I wrote a bunch of interesting stuff and then painstakingly photoshopped a sample tilt-shift image? You DO? Oh, you were just kidding. Sigh. Anyway, tilt-shift photography is a technique of narrowing depth of field to make things look like miniatures, and if you combine that with time-lapse photography, you can make some sweet movies of normal life, tinyified.

Giant Photography Captures Landscape-Sized Ladscapes [Clips]
When you hear about a camera that's the size of a trailer, you figure it's a novelty used by a struggling artist looking to make a name. But watching this clip that explores the giant photography of John Chiara, you realize he's not just a salesman exhibiting a clown camera. He's an artist who painstakingly sets up a shot that's balanced with car lifts, controls the exposure by placing his hand over parts of the lens and then develops the film in a sewage pipe. And the results are pretty extraordinary. This clip documents Chiara's complete process and it runs about 7 worthwhile minutes. Load it up when you've got the time. [via Neatorama]
